Neither of us has been to Melbourne for decades, so if anyone has suggestions for what you consider a 'must', feel free to let me know.
So far, from chats with friends Mark and Betty and Pen, it seems we should go to Lygon Street and Brunswick for great food, as well as Movida, a tapas place of renown. http://www.movida.com.au/
Degraves Street has been mentioned several times for cafes, and so have other famous Melbourne lane ways. For architecture and galleries we'll start with Federation Square - where fortunately the Tourist Information Centre also lives.
There is a fabulous cake place, a 'sweet studio', Burch and Purchese, that I would love to visit, but ONLY if we've done lots of walking. Oh dear, I hope our trip won't always be about the food ....... http://www.burchandpurchese.com/
I have noticed that there are several self guided walking tours available, but I imagine that, as in so many cities that we've visited, we'll start out in one place and take pleasure in not ending up where we thought we would.
And from our luxury room high up in the Sofitel we'll have a continual display of the city's lights, best viewed with a glass of bubbles I expect.
How exciting JP!!! Can't wait to stalk.. I mean... await your blog posts along this incredible journey!!
